Concept Note

Tetso College, in collaboration with the Department of School Education, Government of Nagaland, is hosting a one-day state-level event titled Dr. P. S. Lorin Education Conclave 2025: Enhancing Academic Capabilities for a Changing World, on November 1st, 2025, as part of the annual Dr. P. S. Lorin Lecture Series.

The conclave aims to bring together school principals, senior teachers, students, and education stakeholders from across Nagaland to engage in meaningful dialogue, build capacities, and spark academic innovation. It will serve as a platform to exchange knowledge, discuss pressing education issues, and explore strategies to navigate the rapidly evolving educational landscape shaped by the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.

Over the years, during admission counselling, it has been observed that students often face difficulties in making informed choices about higher education pathways due to limited career guidance. Selecting programmes aligned with individual aspirations and future goals is crucial for student success. This conclave seeks to address such gaps by fostering interactions between educators, students, and policy experts, while providing both inspiration and practical knowledge to strengthen academic outcomes in the State.

In addition to panel discussions and expert-led workshops for educators, the 2025 conclave will feature a Leadership Development Programme for students of Classes 8 to 12, designed to build essential skills such as critical thinking, teamwork, problem-solving, and effective communication. This student-focused component will empower young participants with the mindset and tools to become future-ready leaders in academics and beyond.

The event will also include education-themed stalls showcasing higher education programmes, skill-building opportunities, teaching innovations, and academic resources. Attendees will have the opportunity to interact with representatives from various institutions and organisations, providing valuable insights into academic and career options.

Objectives of the Conclave

  • To empower school leaders and senior educators with practical tools and strategies for academic excellence.

About the Department of School Education, Government of Nagaland:

Department of School Education, Government of Nagaland
The Department of School Education, Nagaland, was established in 1964 and is responsible for overseeing primary, elementary, secondary, and higher secondary education throughout the state. Previously known as the Department of Education, it now functions independently after other divisions such as Higher & Technical Education and the State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) were separated into distinct directorates.

With a strong emphasis on increasing literacy rates—which have risen significantly from 14% in 1961 to more than 80% today—the department manages over two thousand government schools, spanning primary to higher secondary levels. The aims and objectives of the Department revolve around formulating policies and programs based on the evolving needs of Nagaland’s society. Its principal goals include providing free and compulsory education for children aged 6 to 14, eradicating illiteracy and school dropout rates, improving school infrastructure, enriching syllabi, and imparting quality education. The Department also strives to ensure access to vocational, health, and environmental education and promotes parental engagement in the management of schools to foster communal responsibility and ownership.

Functionally, the Department is responsible for the overall administration, management, and supervision of educational institutions across the state. It oversees the activities of District and Sub-Divisional Education Officers, implements flagship programs such as Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA), Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan (RMSA), and the Mid-Day Meal Scheme. Additionally, it monitors and evaluates educational initiatives, manages teacher training, and ensures the inclusion of children with special needs in the education system. By executing these functions, the Department plays a pivotal role in nurturing, regulating, and advancing the quality and reach of school education in Nagaland.
