In a landmark event for sustainable education in Northeast India, Tetso College officially inaugurated a state-of-the-art 120KW solar rooftop hybrid energy storage system in the presence of Er. R. Lobosang Jamir, Additional Chief Engineer (D&R) and Team Leader of the Nagaland Solar Mission (NSM), on 20th September 2025. The inauguration ceremony, held in Hall 1994, marks a transformative step for the institution towards energy independence and environmental leadership.
The project, realized in partnership with A&D Solar Enterprise, positions Tetso College at the forefront of the green campus movement in the region. The hybrid system is designed not merely as an infrastructure upgrade but as a comprehensive solution for clean energy generation and storage. It will maximize the college's self-consumption of solar power by storing excess energy for later use, thereby reducing dependence on the conventional power grid to an absolute minimum.
The inaugural program was presided over by Dr. Richie, Assistant Professor, Department of Social Work and Advisor to the Tetso Nature Club. The event commenced with a warm welcome address by Dr. Hewasa L. Khing, Principal of Tetso College, who underscored the institution's commitment to integrating sustainability into its core values.
The gathering gained insights into the college's broader environmental vision through a presentation on ‘Tetso Green Campus Initiatives’ by Mr. Mhachen R Kithan, an NSS Volunteer from BCA 3rd Semester. Mr. Derrick Soans, Chief Technical Officer (CTO) of A&D Solar Enterprise, then provided a detailed technical introduction to the solar panel project, explaining its operational mechanics and long-term benefits.
The esteemed inaugurator, Er. R. Lobosang Jamir, Additional Chief Engineer (D&R) and Team Leader of the Nagaland Solar Mission (NSM), delivered the inaugural address. He commended Tetso College for its visionary initiative and highlighted its significance in advancing the state’s solar energy goals. He stated that such projects are crucial for promoting energy security and environmental stewardship in Nagaland.
The ceremony concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Ms. Lovi Aye, Assistant Professor, Department of Social Work and Co-Advisor of NSS & Red Ribbon Club.
This 120KW solar installation is a testament to Tetso College's dedication to fostering a culture of sustainability. It serves as a live laboratory for students, offering practical learning opportunities in renewable energy technology, and solidifies the college’s role as an educational leader championing an eco-conscious future for Northeast India.
